I would like to welcome you and your child to sixth grade. I look forward to working with you and your child this year. This is your child's last year at Rancho but it is my fifteen year to guide and direct students' learning. I have taught first grade for 3 years and Kindergarten for 11 years. I have had the privilege to see my former students grow in all areas of academics and achieve great goals. My greatest pleasure is the feedback I get when former students come back to visit me and tell me about their accomplishments. I look forward to this journey with your student this year as we play, learn and grow together.
I believe each child is unique and has a special way of learning. My philosophy of teaching is "All children can learn". I need you as a parent to be a partner with me on this journey. As a parent, you can help by making sure your child is ready for learning each day. Your child needs to go to bed early and eat breakfast so they are fueled for a busy, full day. Your child has homework every day (Monday - Thursday) that should be completed daily. Homework reinforces what we have learned in class and provides you with important information about the skills your child is learning. Starfall.com is an excellent web site you can also use with your child as an extra tool for reinforcement of learning skills. Reading with your child each night models an appreciation for books and the importance for learning to read.
As a teacher I focus on positive praise and reinforcements and I ask that you do the same each day. Discuss with your child the importance of listening to the teacher's directions, following school, classroom and playground rules.
As partners in your student's learning we can provide successful experiences for social, emotional and academic growth. I am available before and after school to discuss any questions or concerns you might have. Let's learn and grow together!Sincerely,
Blythe Waller
