On May 26, 2017, a team composed of fourteen 4th. and 5th. grade students under the direction of Mrs. Raquel Chavez and Emily Coutant won first place in the Battle of the Books competition. Battle of the Books is a literacy competition between fourth and fifth grade students sponsored by the city of Santa Fe Springs Library Literacy Services. The competition was held in the Santa Fe Springs Sports Activity Center. Four schools in the Santa Fe Springs area, Rancho Santa Gertrudes, Jersey, Cresson and Lakeview, competed for the first place.
This is the fourth time that Rancho's team wins first place since School Principal Octavio Pérez became the principal in 2010. Congratulations to all Rancho's BOB students, parents and teachers for their hard work and many, many hours of preparation. Your efforts make us all proud! A special thanks to the City of Santa Fe Springs Library Literacy Services for sponsoring this event.
