During the first week of September 2015, architect renderings of the new Los Nietos Library were released, and the project that was a yearlong negotiation between the Los Nietos School District and the Los Angeles County Public Library system began to take shape. The new Los Nietos Library will be on the corner of Slauson Avenue and Duchess Avenue and will be 7,032 sq. feet.
Part of Supervisor Don Knabe’s Operation Libraries, the new Los Nietos Library will replace the outdated facility that can no longer meet the needs of the Los Nietos community. The new library will have state of the art sustainability and library technologies, an outdoor portico overflow space from the meeting room as well as a protected entry space, daylight harvesting, extensive exterior solar shading, and drought tolerant landscaping.
The Los Nietos School District is working the Los Angeles County Library and Supervisor Knabe’s office to host joint informational meetings to discuss the library construction timeline with the community.
The Los Nietos School Board of Trustees is proud of the joint-use agreement between the County and the District that will not only allow for student access prior to the library being open to the public, but also allow a state of the art library to be built for all residents in the Los Nietos community young and old alike.
