This year Rancho has signed up with Scripps National Spelling Bee to be included in the Regional and possibly the National spelling bees.
Students from first to sixth grades competed in several school spelling bees on Thursday, January 12th 2012.
First, Second and Third graders competed in daytime bees, and three winners from each grade were awarded prizes.
In the evening we hosted the bee for grades four through six where thirty-one spellers competed to win the privilege of representing Rancho at the Regional level. This event will take place on Saturday, February 25th, 2012.
Our champion speller was Paola Ruiz, who correctly spelled the winning word, “stratosphere.” Runners up were Casey Dufrene and Skye Flores.
Miss Whittier 1st Princess 2011, Samantha Treches, was the pronouncer for our school-wide bee. Our judges were David Coutant and Raquel Chavez. Emily Coutant was the scorekeeper.
All of our prizes were paid for by our Spellcheck fundraiser that was held in December.
The cafeteria was full with family and faculty in support of our spellers, who did an excellent job representing themselves and their class.
