On November 18, 2010, Rancho Santa Gertrudes School celebrated Family Literacy Night at Borders Bookstore in Pico Rivera. Students read original stories about what they were most thankful for as Thanksgiving Day approaches. The Bookstore was crowded with proud parents, grandparents, siblings, and teachers as students read their story.
Principal Octavio Perez, welcomed the parents and introduced his teachers who then introduced the student authors. Many Rancho teachers brought their own children making it a "true" Family Literacy Night for all in attendance. The spirit of community could be felt at Borders, and it is that community spirit that makes Rancho Santa Gertrudes School an exceptional learning environment.
