Message From Superintendent Vasquez Extending School Dismissal through May 4, 2020

March 27, 2020

Dear Los Nietos Community:

During the unprecedented spread of the COVID-19 virus across the State of California and Country, we have been following closely the recommendations made by the President, our Governor, the Department of Public Health, and the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) in order to keep our staff and students safe. On March 19th Governor Gavin Newsom and the Los Angeles County officials issued new “Safer at Home” Orders and prohibited gatherings of more than 10 people, which I have attached below. Following the new “Safer at Home” Orders that were issued, last Friday on March 20th,  the LACOE Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Debra Duardo, announced her recommendation to all Los Angeles County School Districts to extend student’s dismissal from attending all public schools in Los Angeles County until Tuesday, May 5, 2020 to help contain the spread of COVID-19.

Therefore, the Los Nietos Board of Trustees and I have decided to accept LACOE’s recommendation and continue dismissing students from attending Los Nietos Schools and extend off-campus, remote learning activities through Monday, May 4thThe first day students will be attending Los Nietos Schools is scheduled for Tuesday, May 5th (subject to change based health and education official recommendations).

Student meals will be served on Mondays and Wednesdays at all four school sites beginning the week of March 30thThe hours that the grab-and-go food pick-up will be from 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Los Nietos students will be able to go any school to pick-up food but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Our top priorities right now are to ensure our students and employees are healthy and safe, our students maintain continuity of education, and our highest-need families receive healthy meals and access to necessities. Thank you for your understanding of the District’s desire to keep your children safe and healthy. As new information becomes available, I will be providing updates to you through email, phone messages, and updates on our website.

We appreciate your support and patience, and remain committed to providing you with information and resources as we receive them.

Jonathan Vasquez
